“Greener, Safer and Smarter Road Transport for Europe”

28 06 2010

EURIDICE at the Transport Research Arena 2010 in Brussels

This year the European Commissioner for Science and Research, Máire Georghegan-Quinn, invited leading European researches on “Greener, Safer and Smarter Road Transport for Europe” to the third European Road Transport Research Arena, TRA 2010, held in Brussels from 7th to 10th of June 2010.

The conference aimed to offer a platform for the major players in European logistics for issues such as “sustainable mobility, competiveness of logistics and innovation as key enabler for sustaining road transport” which was proudly utilized by the EURIDICE project.

The EURIDICE consortium dispatched two representatives to this important event. Paolo Paganelli, project coordinator of the EURIDICE project gave a presentation on“Sustainable logistics in European ICT research” where he emphasized the importance of European ICT research. Mr. Paganelli showed that innovative ICT technology with good cause is one key stimulus to reach sustainable logistics, not only for road mobility, but also in multi-modal transport using the example of EURIDICE. He was able to assure his audience which was responded by a large attendance at his speech. Mr. Paganelli’s presentation was recognized as an important contribution to the European research landscape.

The second presentation was held by the EURIDICE Dissemination Manager Mr. Schumacher Jens. Mr. Schumacher talked on a more technical level about key technologies facilitated by the EURIDICE project in order to fulfill the concepts of Intelligent Cargo. In front of a high-ranking audience composed of technical experts and leading European researchers Mr. Schumacher introduced the interplay of technologies like ‘Autonomous, Mobile Agents’, ‘Distributed Ontology Guided Decision Making’ and ‘Service Oriented Architecture’ which was acknowledged attentively by his listeners.

The European Road Transport Research Arena participation confirmed the EURIDICE project as one of the leading European research activities in this domain. The dedicated EURIDICE booth at the conference furthermore offered possibilities to exchange experience with other organizations and research initiatives and to build the fundaments for possible future cooperation. The EURIDICE booth was a well accepted opportunity to disseminate the project’s results but also for networking and socialization with other research initiatives.

The EURIDICE consortium wants to thank its representatives as well as the conference organization and is looking forward to the upcoming 4th edition of the TRA.

EURIDICE - A project with highly recognized value and visibility

19 04 2010

Last Tuesday, the 13th of April, EURIDICE was presented to the Minister of breeding and ichthyic resources of the Ivory Coast and his delegation at VIU (Venice International University).

The presentation focused on the application of the Intelligent Cargo in the pilots, particularly on the fish distributor pilot.
The delegation recognized the high quality and value of the project especially in terms of benefits for different players within the supply chain and expressed their wish to participate in EURIDICE.

This is a clear indicator that EURIDICE is of global interest. It started as a European project, with the intent to include stakeholders outside Europe as well thus increasing the visibility and the high value of the project idea on a global level. These efforts  are on-going through project presentations at international conferences, e.g. the 15th International Symposium on Logistics (ISL 2010) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where EURIDICE will have its own track, and through the possibility of participation of external partners through the Intelligent Cargo Forum.

We are looking forward to sharing our results and expertise with other parties interested in the project, both companies and individuals. If you are interested in EURIDICE you can register on this website. As a registered user you will receive updates on the project as well as access to the project deliverables and other documentation. If you are interested in the impact of EURIDICE's intelligent cargo application and in discussion of the themes around this concept, you can join Intelligent Cargo Forum.
